I have always relied on process to construct narrative. Recently however, I have shifted focus away from my own process to that of the viewer's. I purposely work with incomplete images and abstraction so that an emphasis is placed upon the unification of these fragmentary elements into a coherent narrative. This, the viewer's attempt at closure, is what allows the painting to become something that is truly subjective: the viewer's own moods and associations come to form the content of the painting. Thus, each painting tells a story unique to every viewer. By reading the various elements of the painting together (and through one another) the viewing experience becomes an opportunity to generate new meaning to, or at least new understanding of, the viewer's own memories, ideas, and histories.
